House Calls Podcast With U.S. Surgeon General: Can We All Be Healers?
Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen, founder of the Remen Institute for the Study of Health & Illness (RISHI) at Pure Healthcare, was recently featured on the “House Calls” podcast, hosted by Dr. Vivek Murthy, the U.S. Surgeon General.
In the podcast, Dr. Remen discusses that in times of disconnection, a powerful and often untapped source of healing is that which we can provide for each other. The podcast explores the difference between curing and healing, the role of love in doctoring, and how listening is a form of healing.
“We belong to each other. I think the loneliness that many people talk about today is because they don’t feel they belong anywhere. And the way you belong is through service,” Dr. Ramen said. “If you think even of your family’s situation, those are relationships of deep service, your husband, your wife, your children. And then you extend that out to your neighbors, to your patients, and you’re never alone.”
RISHI provides education and support programs for health professionals who practice a medicine of service, human connection and compassionate healing. RISHI’s mission is to contribute to healing the culture of healthcare through innovative education programs and the formation of supportive communities.
