RISHI AT PURE HEALTHCARE WELCOMES NEW VETERINARY MEDICINE HEALER’S ART COURSE DIRECTORS
The Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness at Pure Healthcare are pleased to announce that Dr. Devon Hague from the University of Illinois and Dr. Ricardo de Matos from Cornell University will be stepping in as Co-Directors of the Veterinary Healer’s Art course for RISHI. Dr. Hague and Dr. de Matos have directed very successful Healer’s Art Courses at their respective institutions. They are passionate about the course and have seen and experienced the deeply meaningful impact of the course on students, facilitators and for themselves personally. They are excited to serve and support current and future veterinary colleagues as they consider and offer the Healer’s Art Course and the Tending the Flame program and look forward to working with all of you.
We greatly appreciate Devon and Ricardo’s spirit of generosity in which they have expressed this position is a way of “giving back to veterinarian medicine.”
RISHI at Pure Healthcare would like to thank our outgoing Director of the Veterinary Healer’s Art Program, Laurie Fonken PhD. She has served as support for the program for directors and co-directors and has helped with the Faculty Development Training Workshop. Dr. Fonken retired from Colorado State University in January of 2021. She continued to support Veterinary Healer’s Art in the past 3 years and has recently decided to transition out of the role at the end of this year.
We greatly appreciate Laurie’s expertise in the area of veterinarian medicine well-being. We are forever grateful for Laurie’s dedication, commitment, and passion to bring RISHI’s Veterinarian Healer’s Art Course to veterinarian schools nationally and internationally. During Laurie’s many years of service to the Veterinarian Healer’s Art Course, she has impacted hundreds of veterinarian students and faculty to strengthen their commitment to the field of veterinary medicine.
The Veterinary Healer’s Art course was first implemented at Colorado State University in 2011. Over the past 13 years 17 additional veterinary schools have sent individuals to the Faculty Development Workshop for training to offer and implement the course. Evaluations from veterinary students and faculty facilitators who have participated in the course have been overwhelmingly positive and each year new schools inquire about the opportunity to offer the course to their students.
