Meet Dr. Ricardo de Matos

Dr. Ricardo de Matos is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. He was born in Lisbon, Portugal. After completing veterinary school there, he moved to the US and completed advanced clinical training in exotic animal medicine and surgery. He served as a clinical educator in the Pet Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine service for several years, where he developed a passion for supporting veterinary students reaching their full potential.

Dr. de Matos current focus is on competency based veterinary medicine curriculum design and implementation, with a special focus on professional competencies and professional identity formation. He is one of the Healer’s Art Course leaders at Cornell, where the course has been offered since 2018. His core values are courage, connection, integrity and wholeness. Dr. de Matos hobbies include cooking, gardening, spending time outdoors and traveling.
