SUMMARY:2024 RISHI Tending the Flame Retreat & Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:RISHI’s Tending the Flame Retreat & Training Workshop\nA 2-1/2 day retreat and training workshop in personal and professional resilience for clinicians and healthcare paraprofessionals. \nLed by Rachel Naomi Remen\, MD\, Evangeline Andarsio\, MD and Alyssa McManamon\, MD \n\nFriday – Sunday\, October 18-20\, 2024\nLocation: Mills Park Hotel\, Yellow Springs\, Ohio\nFri/Sat from 9:30–5:30\, Sun from 9:30–12:30\n\nDescription\nAre you seeking reflection and renewal in your professional and personal life? If so\, please join us for an incredibly enriching experience! This 2.5 day retreat and training workshop will draw on the award-winning discovery model methods of the Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness (RISHI)\, offering nourishment and self-care for healthcare professionals. In community\, we will explore the meaning of our work and create opportunities for healing in this challenging time in healthcare. \nJoin Evangeline Andarsio\, MD\, RISHI Director and Alyssa McManamon\, MD\, Assistant Director of RISHI’s Tending the Flame to: \n\nAwaken the experience of respite\, quiet and peace.\nExplore using reflection\, experiential exercises\, symbolism\, narrative\, journaling\, generous listening\, and small group sharing.\nEnhance compassion and resiliency using self-care tools.\nExperience the compassionate support of a professional community.\nLearn to bring a Finding Meaning Group and/or Tending the Flame Program to your healthcare community.\n\nThe epidemic of burnout and compassion fatigue during the professional life cycle of clinicians and healthcare paraprofessionals has stimulated the development of new approaches to prevention and recovery. Research suggests that the capacity to find personal meaning in your work is highly correlated with professional and personal resiliency and the experience of deep satisfaction in service work. Most clinicians and healthcare workers live far more meaningful lives than they realize. Experiencing the meaning already present in our daily work does not require us to change what we do but to see familiar things in new ways. Often it requires us to transcend our training and bring the perspective of the heart into the center of our professional work. Those participants who attend the Sunday half-day training will leave prepared to bring Finding Meaning and/or Tending the Flame to their healthcare communities. Those looking for a retreat-only experience should plan to attend only Friday-Saturday. \nThis 2-½ day retreat and training workshop will draw on the award winning discovery model methods of RISHI’s national and international educational programs to offer participants the opportunity to discover the power of meaning to transform their experience of their daily work\, revitalize their commitment and reinvigorate their service intention. \nUsing reflection\, poetry\, symbolism\, narrative\, art\, journaling\, generous listening\, and small group sharing we will enable workshop participants to revisit their original calling\, discover the personal meaning hidden in their daily routine\, and learn self-help methods to reclaim and sustain their passion for their profession. Come prepared to remember why you chose your work and recover the deep satisfaction of being in healthcare. \nRISHI‘s Tending the Flame retreat and training workshop enables participants to develop an authentic and supportive professional community\, take personal ownership of the meaning and values which are inherent in the lineage and practice of each health profession\, refresh their calling and service intention and learn effective self-care tools to enhance resiliency in their professional and personal lives. \nThe Tending the Flame retreat and training workshop occurs over 2-1/2 days\, provides an introduction to Finding Meaning GroupsTM and CME CATEGORY 1 APPROVAL: 14.75 contact hours. \nWho Should Apply\n\nResidency directors or other medical educators in search of well-tested innovative self-care methods for furthering professional and personal resiliency.\nEducators spearheading Physician and/or Nurse Well-Being Programs\, or Well-Being Committees in hospitals\, hospital systems\, physician group practices\, or other healthcare organizations and educators in Veterinarian Well-Being Programs or Committees in veterinary health systems.\nResidents or Fellows involved in Resident or Fellow Well-Being Programs or Clinician Well-Being Committees.\nClinicians and healthcare workers looking for a retreat experience in community to bolster resiliency and well-being should only register for the retreat experience (Fri-Sat) and will not be trained to bring Finding Meaning Groups and/or Tending the Flame back to their communities.\n\nHow to Apply\nSubmit your application online before September 10\, 2024. If so\, please join us for an incredibly enriching experience! This retreat and training workshop will draw on the award-winning discovery model methods of the Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness (RISHI)\, offering nourishment and self-care for healthcare professionals. In community\, we will explore the meaning of our work and create opportunities for healing in this challenging time in healthcare. \nLed by Evangeline Andarsio\, MD\, RISHI Director to: \n\nAwaken the experience of respite and peace.\nExplore using reflection\, experiential exercises\, symbolism\, narrative\, journaling\, generous listening\, and small group sharing.\nEnhance compassion and resiliency using self-care tools.\nExperience the compassionate support of a professional community.\nLearn to bring a Finding Meaning Group to your healthcare community.\n\nThe epidemic of burnout and compassion fatigue during the professional life cycle of clinicians and healthcare paraprofessionals has stimulated the development of new approaches to prevention and recovery. \nThe award-winning discovery model methods of RISHI’s educational programs offer participants the opportunity to discover the power of meaning to transform their experience of their daily work\, revitalize their commitment and reinvigorate their service intention. \nCME CATEGORY 1 approval: information forthcoming. \nWho Should Apply \n\nResidency directors or medical educators in search of well-tested innovative self-care methods for enhancing professional and personal resiliency.\nEducators spearheading Physician and/or Nurse Well-Being Programs\, or Well-Being Committees in hospitals\, healthcare systems\, group practices\, or other healthcare organizations and educators in Veterinarian Well-Being Programs or Committees in veterinary health systems.\nResidents or Fellows involved in Resident or Fellow Well-Being Programs or Clinician Well-Being Committees.\nClinicians and healthcare workers looking for a retreat experience in community to bolster resiliency and well-being should only register for the retreat experience\n\nHow to Apply \nSubmit your application online by Monday\, March 23rd\, 2026. All applications will be reviewed\, and you will be notified of your acceptance to the workshop within two weeks of submitting your application. \nComplete the application using the link below: \n2026 Tending the Flame Retreat & Training Workshop Application \nFinancial Information \nRegistration Fee: Due within 30 days of the acceptance of application. \n\n$1500 (Friday & Saturday Retreat Only)\n$1800 (Friday\, Saturday and Sunday\, Retreat & Training Workshop)\n\nGraduate Program Learners: Due within 30 days of the acceptance of application. \n\n$975 (Friday & Saturday Retreat Only)\n\nNote: Registration fee includes breakfast and lunch\, daily.  Lodging and evening meals are the responsibility of the participants.  \nCancellation & Refund Policy:  \n\n60 days or greater to the first day of Workshop = full registration fee refunded\, less $100 administrative fee.\n59 – 31 days or greater to the first day of Workshop = 50% of registration fee refunded\, less $100 administrative fee.\n30 days or less prior to the first day of Workshop = forfeit of full registration fee (100%).\n\nNote: Registration fee includes breakfast and lunch\, daily.  Lodging and evening meals are the responsibility of the participants. \nFor questions regarding registration\, payments\, travel\, hotel or other customer service issues\, contact Becky Johnson at 326-222-3579 or rjohnson@purehealthcare.org. \nFaculty \nEvangeline C. SUMMARY:Power of Nursing Informational Session
DESCRIPTION:There is a crisis that is quietly reshaping healthcare: nearly one in three new nurses leaves the bedside within their first year!\n\n\nBehind that statistic are real human costs — compassion fatigue\, emotional exhaustion\, and a profession that is losing talented\, caring people before they ever fully arrive. Many nurses simply lose touch with their “why” — the deep sense of calling that drew them to this work in the first place. The Power of Nursing (PON) curriculum was created by the Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness (RISHI) in direct response to this crisis.\n\nJoin us for an informational session to explore the Power of Nursing\, an experiential program\, that creates space for reflection\, renewal\, and reconnection\, helping nursing students and professionals rediscover their “why” and build resilience that lasts. It also advances personal and professional development by cultivating emotional intelligence\, purpose\, and self-awareness alongside clinical skill. By integrating PON\, your institution can empower future nurses to stay grounded\, compassionate\, and purpose-driven — strengthening both retention and patient care from the inside out!!\n\n\n\nTuesday April 28\, 2026\n4-5 p.m. ET (1pm PT\, 3pm CT)\nZoom Meeting\n\n\nDiscussion to be led by Suzanne Scheller\, MS\, RN\, CNE\n\nAssociate Clinical Professor\nTexas Woman’s University\n713-794-2144\nsscheller@twu.edu  \nDirector\, Power of Nursing\nThe Remen Institute for the Study of Health & Illness (RISHI) at Pure Healthcare\nsscheller@purehealthcare.org \n\nZOOM Meeting Info:\nhttps://twu-edu.zoom.us/j/83721062075?pwd=GSXbj8ScXCCC3bxXAaAePbh3gIlXDY.1\n\nMeeting ID: 837 2106 2075\nPasscode: 184727\n\nOne tap mobile\n+13462487799\,\,83721062075# US (Houston)\n+12133388477\,\,83721062075# US (Los Angeles)
