In community\, we will explore the meaning of our work and create opportunities for healing in this challenging time in healthcare. \nJoin Evangeline Andarsio\, MD\, RISHI Director and Alyssa McManamon\, MD\, Assistant Director of RISHI’s Tending the Flame to: \n\nAwaken the experience of respite\, quiet and peace.\nExplore using reflection\, experiential exercises\, symbolism\, narrative\, journaling\, generous listening\, and small group sharing.\nEnhance compassion and resiliency using self-care tools.\nExperience the compassionate support of a professional community.\nLearn to bring a Finding Meaning Group and/or Tending the Flame Program to your healthcare community.\n\nThe epidemic of burnout and compassion fatigue during the professional life cycle of clinicians and healthcare paraprofessionals has stimulated the development of new approaches to prevention and recovery. Research suggests that the capacity to find personal meaning in your work is highly correlated with professional and personal resiliency and the experience of deep satisfaction in service work. Most clinicians and healthcare workers live far more meaningful lives than they realize. Experiencing the meaning already present in our daily work does not require us to change what we do but to see familiar things in new ways. Often it requires us to transcend our training and bring the perspective of the heart into the center of our professional work. Those participants who attend the Sunday half-day training will leave prepared to bring Finding Meaning and/or Tending the Flame to their healthcare communities. Those looking for a retreat-only experience should plan to attend only Friday-Saturday. \nThis 2-½ day retreat and training workshop will draw on the award winning discovery model methods of RISHI’s national and international educational programs to offer participants the opportunity to discover the power of meaning to transform their experience of their daily work\, revitalize their commitment and reinvigorate their service intention. \nUsing reflection\, poetry\, symbolism\, narrative\, art\, journaling\, generous listening\, and small group sharing we will enable workshop participants to revisit their original calling\, discover the personal meaning hidden in their daily routine\, and learn self-help methods to reclaim and sustain their passion for their profession. Come prepared to remember why you chose your work and recover the deep satisfaction of being in healthcare. \nRISHI‘s Tending the Flame retreat and training workshop enables participants to develop an authentic and supportive professional community\, take personal ownership of the meaning and values which are inherent in the lineage and practice of each health profession\, refresh their calling and service intention and learn effective self-care tools to enhance resiliency in their professional and personal lives. \nThe Tending the Flame retreat and training workshop occurs over 2-1/2 days\, provides an introduction to Finding Meaning GroupsTM and CME CATEGORY 1 APPROVAL: 14.75 contact hours. \nWho Should Apply\n\nResidency directors or other medical educators in search of well-tested innovative self-care methods for furthering professional and personal resiliency.\nEducators spearheading Physician and/or Nurse Well-Being Programs\, or Well-Being Committees in hospitals\, hospital systems\, physician group practices\, or other healthcare organizations and educators in Veterinarian Well-Being Programs or Committees in veterinary health systems.\nResidents or Fellows involved in Resident or Fellow Well-Being Programs or Clinician Well-Being Committees.\nClinicians and healthcare workers looking for a retreat experience in community to bolster resiliency and well-being should only register for the retreat experience (Fri-Sat) and will not be trained to bring Finding Meaning Groups and/or Tending the Flame back to their communities.\n\nHow to Apply\nSubmit your application online before September 10\, 2024. For questions regarding registration\, payments\, travel\, hotel or other customer service issues\, contact Jeff Staats at 937.245.7450 or Jstaats@purehealthcare.org. \nApplication Guidelines\nCourse directors must attend the 2.5-day training prior to implementation of the course at their institution. \nWe strongly suggest that two course co-directors attend from each institution. If you are implementing the RISHI Resiliency Curriculum for a Physician or Resident Wellness program/committee\, one of the course directors must be a physician. If you are implementing the RISHI Resiliency Curriculum for a Nurse Wellness program/committee\, one of the course directors must be a nurse. Our experience has shown that implementation of the course is more likely when there are two co-directors to support each other during implementation\, and further guarantees the continuity of the curriculum. \nPrior to attending the RISHI Resiliency Training Workshop\, the course director(s) must obtain written institutional support from appropriate directors of the Resident\, Physician\, Nurse Wellness Committee/Program expressing a level of interest in implementing the curriculum at their institution and understanding of the licensing fee. \nThe Directors of the Wellness Committee/Program at your institution need to be aware that our RISHI resiliency curriculum\, as well as\, utilizing the RISHI copyrighted FMM program\, involves a licensing fee\, thus\, they should have a plan to provide fiscal support. \nParticipation in the workshop does not obligate your institution to paying the licensing fee. RISHI’s only requirement is\, in the event you desire to move forward with the program you agree to pay the initial licensing fee and evaluate further participation from year to year. We have a form that requires the signature of the individual responsible for approving the licensing fee\, again\, only if you decide to move forward with the program. \nPlease keep in mind\, this is copyrighted material and cannot be used without payment of the licensing fee. We also offer\, and highly recommend your leadership attend and participate in one of our workshops to fully engage and understand the value of our program(s). RISHI is here for you and your leadership if there are questions or additional information is needed regarding the licensing fee or any other aspect of the program. \nThe course director(s) agree(s) to use a nationally standardized evaluation\, provided by RISHI\, for residents\, fellows\, physicians\, or nurses participating in the course. RISHI is available to provide a summarization of your course evaluations annually. \nThe course must be taught in its entirety as described in the syllabus. SUMMARY:2022 RISHI Tending The Flame
DESCRIPTION:A 2-1/2 day workshop in personal and professional resilience for physicians\, nurses and graduate program learners \nLed by Rachel Naomi Remen\, MD\, Evangeline Andarsio\, MD\, Alyssa McManamon\, MD\, and Mary Pat Thomas\, MS\, RN\, AHN-BC \n\nFriday – Sunday\, April 29 – May 1\, 2022\nLocation: Mills Park Hotel/ Yellow Springs\, Ohio\nFri/Sat from 9:30 – 5:30\, Sun from 9:30 – 12:30\n\nDescription\nThe fast growing epidemic of compassion fatigue during the professional life cycle of physicians and nurses has stimulated the search for etiology and the development of new approaches of prevention and recovery. Recent research suggests that the capacity to find personal meaning in your work is highly correlated with professional and personal resiliency and the experience of deep satisfaction in service work. Most residents\, fellows\, physicians\, and nurses live far more meaningful lives than they realize. Experiencing the meaning already present in our daily work does not require us to change what we do but to see familiar things in new ways. Often it requires us to transcend our training and bring the perspective of the heart into the center of our professional work. Meaning is a function of the heart and not the mind. The heart is an organ of vision\, a perspective that enables us to experience meaning even in the most routine aspects of our work and reignite our calling. \nThis 2-½ day workshop will draw on the award winning discovery model methods of RISHI’s national and international educational programs to offer participants the opportunity to discover the power of meaning to transform their experience of their daily work\, revitalize their commitment and reinvigorate their service intention. Educators will be trained to offer the program at their sites. \nUsing reflection\, poetry\, symbolism\, narrative\, art\, journaling\, generous listening and small group sharing Rachel Remen\, MD\, Evangeline Andarsio\, MD\, Alyssa McManamon\, MD and Mary Pat Thomas\, MS\, RN\, AHN-BC\, will enable workshop participants to revisit their original calling\, discover the personal meaning hidden in their daily routine and learn self-help methods to reclaim and sustain their passion for their profession. Come prepared to remember why you chose your work and recover the deep satisfaction of being a health professional. \nWho Should Apply\n\nResidency directors or other medical educators in search of well-tested innovative self-care methods for furthering professional and personal resiliency for residents\nEducators spearheading Physician and/or Nurse Well-Being Programs\, or Well Being Committees in hospitals\, hospital systems\, physician group practices\, or other healthcare organizations and educators in Veterinarian Well-Being Programs or Committees in veterinarian health systems\nResidents or Fellows involved in Resident or Fellow Well-Being Programs or Clinician Well-Being Committees\n\nHow to Apply\nSubmit your application online by April 1\, 2022. All applications will be reviewed. We will let you know of acceptance to the workshop within 2 weeks of application submission. \nComplete the application using the link below: \n\nAPPLICATION – Tending the Flame application – April 29 – May 1\, 2022\n\nTuition\n\nAcademic Residency Faculty: $1\,350.00\nPhysician or Nurse Well-Being Educators: $1\,350.00\nResidents and Fellows: $600.00\n\nNote: Tuition covers the cost of the syllabus\, training\, warm breakfast and lunch. \nCancellation & Refund Policy\nA deposit of $300 is due at time that your application is accepted. Cancellations after April 1 will forfeit deposit and/or full registration. For further information regarding the training contact Evangeline Andarsio\, MD at eandarsio@purehealthcare.org. \nThe course director(s) agree(s) to use a nationally standardized evaluation\, provided by RISHI\, for residents\, physicians\, or nurses participating in the course. RISHI is available to provide a summarization of your course evaluations annually. \nThe course must be taught in its entirety as described in the syllabus. Any other use of the syllabus must be discussed with Rachel Naomi Remen\, MD and Evangeline C. Andarsio\, MD at The Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness at Pure Healthcare\, LLC the copyright holder. \nThe course director(s) must agree that modules cannot be incorporated into other professional courses\, nor can the courses in their entirety be incorporated into other existing curricula without the consent of copyright holder. \nFaculty\nRachel Naomi Remen\, MD\, Founding Director of the Remen Institute for the Study of Health and Illness; Professor of Family Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine; Founding Director of The Healer’s Art\, A national curriculum for Medical Students; bestselling author of Kitchen Table Wisdom and My Grandfather’s Blessings. \nPlease Note: Dr. Remen will only be available via video conferencing for the workshop. \nEvangeline C.
